I’m a Wajuk, Balardung, Kija and a Yulparitja man from the West of Australia. I will be walking across country from Matagarup/Heirrison Island in Perth to Parliament House in Canberra, following songlines and visiting communities along the way, where I will eventually be seeking audience with the Prime Minister and address the many injustices against the First Nations people of this land.

  1. Clinton, I am filed with admiration for your effort. Not only is your task important for aboriginal people but for all people who live in this country. I am a white man with a long record of indigenous involvement but I must add that I also have (via family marriage) nieces and nephews who are aboriginal, mainly from the Wave Hill region.

Every step you take is a step in the right direction. Every step you take is precious and filled with meaning. Every step you take upholds your family, your promise to you father and your people, and helps restore value to this country, stepped in history going back for over 50 thousand years.

May the great ancestors watch over you, because the great ancestors also depend on you, your heart is a broad as the country itself, it holds all hope, all love, everything that is meaningful.

I will leave you with a poem I recently wrote. It speaks directly to the heart, I wrote it after a recent visit to The Alice:

I am going to the wordless land,
    The totem land, creviced, succoured
    When the drought ends.

I am going to where trees
    And lizards merge, where hours
Are never counted, worry has no root,
No cause, no place to grow.

I am going to the rest land, past
    Tumbleweed, great rounded rocks,
Skulls embedded in the dry red earth.

I am going to the kingdom, the painted land,
To where things end, and yet begin.

So there you have it Clinton, my thoughts are with you, every step of the way. Chris Hunter.
