More info soon.

Day 353: 1pm

[Admin Luke] Just got another reply from the Governor General’s office. He’s refusing to come out and discuss issues with Clinton and Aboriginal Elder’s at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. Instead his office insists only on a 1-on-1 conversation, and only up at Government House.

I think it’s time for you all to give their office a phone call and politely ask the Governor General to come out and meet with Clinton and the Aboriginal Elders at the Aboriginal Tenty Embassy on September 6.

Here’s the number: (02) 6283 3533

Where is the respect for Sovereign First Nation people?? Clinton has walked 5500km, Elders are traveling from across the country and the Governor General refuses to come out and hear their stories and take their messages for the Queen??

Day 351: 10.30am

[Admin Toby] In a movement to educate wider Australians of ongoing Indigenous wage discrimination, during the lead up to the 50th anniversary of the Wave Hill walk-off in August 2016, a flash mob style “art installation” was staged as a form of protest which took social media by storm.

The First Nations Workers’ Alliance followed as a new organisation formed alongside the Australian Unions. With CDP workers and the community they serve to give a voice to workers being exploited, while campaigning to end the CDP and replace it with a program that works for Indigenous people rather than oppressing them.

We were really pleased to see Zachary Joseph Wone caught up with Clinton in La Perouse!

Here is more info about FNWA from Australian Unions:

The Turnbull Government’s Community Development Program (CDP) is depriving tens of thousands of people of that opportunity. It’s punitive, heavy-handed and racially discriminatory and the Union movement is determined to see it removed.

CDP workers are not actually classified as workers. They get well below the minimum wage (the dole pays $11.60/hour or $290/week) for working for 25 hours a week for non-profit and now for-profit businesses.

They are not covered by the Fair Work Act, they don’t have Federal OHS protections or workers compensation and they can’t take annual leave, sick leave or carer’s leave.

Those under the CDP are forced to work up to three times longer than city-based jobseekers to receive welfare payments.

CDP workers have 70 times the financial penalties imposed upon them than non-remote dole workers.

Fines for missing activities under CDP – which coverers a tiny fraction of the population – account for more than half the total penalties across the entire welfare system.

Day 346: 7.30pm

Day 346: 8.30am

Good morning guys it a beautiful day today.

Day 346: 1.30pm

[Admin Toby] Over the course of Clinton’s Walk, his Uncle Herbert Bropho has kept in contact by often sending me video’s and – as im sure you have seen – the many memes and images blended into works of art. He surprised Clinton and the crew by joining them in Sydney for the final length to Canberra, sporting one of the supporter shirts. He has never given up advocating for rights, his nephews cause, speaking at rallies such as the nation wide ‘Justice for Elijah’ protests, and local issues such as Wadjemup (Rottnest Island), the case of Matagarup and homelessness.

In a defiant plea, Uncle Herbert also sits at the gates of his former Swan Valley community every Monday since being closed by the WA State Government in 2003. Its people were immediately disposessed and made homeless after 11 houses were demolished in the dawn with no notice of eviction given to the families.

With the demolition of community infrastructure at Oombulgurri
and Barnetts intention of further community closures, the situation of homelessness rose to media attention again in 2016 following a 3rd raid to confiscate personal belongings on Hieresson Island by police and City of Perth officials. Although registered as a sacred site, an Injunction lodged by Bella Bropho was unsuccessful at the time that Clinton set out accross the country on foot.

Here is a video of Matagarup or Hieresson Island that Uncle Herbert shared with me a few weeks ago that I hadn’t seen and its honesty struck me. Featured in New Zealand it was free of media bias and its images presented the fact that not much has changed in the approach of governments to the realities of First Nations People.

Matagarup – a place of Aboriginal cultural significance – was called a refugee camp for valid reasons.

Day 346: 4pm

[Admin Lisa] Are you planning on joining the walk ?? If you are, then you need to read this.

What you need to bring :

You will be responsible for your own food, camping gear, water, money and any other costs incurred while walking.

We would love you to bring your commitment, your sense of humour and your deepest respects for what Clinton has achieved in the last year and how important this last final part of his walk is.

We want to keep the fires burning, so if you are coming to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy please bring some wood to donate, funds for yourself and a sense of unity and purpose.

We want to use this opportunity to remind people that Clinton is THE ONLY spokesperson for his Walk for Justice .

We will not tolerate any unsociable behaviours, drugs and alcohol are not appropriate or acceptable and you will be asked to leave if any of these basic courteous rules are not followed.

Everyone is welcome to join in but it is up to you to work out where, when and how.

There are buses available for people who may be having a tough day or just want an easier day, the buses can also be used to store your camping gear on during the day so that you are free to walk.

Please label all your possessions.

An Event Page will be created that we will share and ask you to join. This will be where we post updates about where Clinton and the team are at and this will also be the place where walkers will need to check in to for any important announcements.

The Admin Team are flying over to join you all next week and we want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your help and support in getting us over there. It is really appreciated and we couldn’t have done any of this without you !!

Day 344: 2pm

[Admin Toby] Transcription of David Suzuki at the National Day of Action, Campbeltown NSW. 30 October 2016.

“You see, the issue is not one of racism, its about a colonial mindset and the battles you are having here are the same battles we are having in North America and in South America and in Africa. A colonial mentality that is not interested in Mother Earth.

I am astounded at the fact that you – Indigenous people still exist on this Land after all thats been done to you and I thank you. I thank you because we depend on you now, we need your leadership and the way of seeing the world that you have.

You see we have been blanketed by a mindset that does not see Mother Earth but sees resources and opportunities and its become a very powerful force – I am not Indigenous but I am here to say I am with you – to battle, because I am against the same mindset.

Someone said earlier that you want justice; you can not expect justice from a system that is built on denying the biggest crime of them all, which was that people came here and took your land! How can you have justice from a system that was built on that great crime to begin with?

So what I say is ‘we are now in a battle around the world’. A battle against the mentality that no longer sees the Earth as sacred. That no longer sees the Earth as our Mother. The very source of our lives and our well being.

And this is not any longer something that only Indigenous people have, it is people like me, people around the world who are beggining to realise that to talk about sustainability means that the only people on the Planet that know about sustainability are the people who have lived in place for thousands of years. And through the mistakes and failures and successes of their Elders, understand deeply what it means to live on the Land – with the Land.

So I just want to say thankyou. Thankyou for hanging on despite the horrors of what you’ve lived through. Your hanging on to something and we non-Indigenous want to work and help you work – with you, because we’ve got to overthrow the mentality that is ultimitely destroying this Planet.”

That it well bring this country together in working on a better way of a future for our child to live together in harmony an that no one shall no longer be left behind living in homeless an living in poverty. That mother earth shall shine an bring back the beautiful of this life we see every day in this world.

Day 341: 8am

The constitution is not broken it just that you people in politics don’t want to follow the rule book because you choose to be greedy an what power to control us.

The construction is for the people to give them the power to have a say when it come to laws, votes and who they want to lead this country.

I seen the old constitution the 1901 it has change from a government for the people to a government for the rich. We shall no longer be rule by the rich an that the power shall come back to the people.

[Admin Toby] National Indigenous Times reports; ‘it is time for the Indigenous disciples of Constitutional recognition to turn their eyes to legislation’.

Michael Mansell adds: “I totally support the group that led the referendum push being an integral part of developing new legislation, provided some sobering lessons are learned.”

One of those lessons most notably: that the overwhelming objection to First Nations People being included in a colonial constitution is the assertion and need for regard of First Nations continued Soverienty.

Now it seems obvious the ‘Uphold and Recognise’ organisation will continue from the abandoned Recognise campaign. To further this are the events listed under their website:
